The history of El-Nabil

El-Nabil is a relatively young brand. Sources differ on the exact year it was founded. The oldest El-Nabil fragrances in the Fragrantica database date from 2005, while other sources give 2010 or 2011 as the founding year. What is clear is that the brand has grown quickly over the past decade, especially in France and the rest of Western Europe.

The brand itself tells the story of a founder who, as a ‘hunter of essences’, gathered raw materials from all over the world: oud from Cambodia, amber from East Africa, jasmine from the Maghreb, rose from Bulgaria and vanilla from Madagascar. According to El-Nabil, the compositions are developed together with perfumers in Grasse, the famous French perfume town. The motto Luxury for everyone sums up the philosophy: luxurious, long-lasting fragrances at a price everyone can afford.

Where does El-Nabil come from?

El-Nabil is a French brand with an oriental signature. That sets it apart from most brands in our shop, which come from Dubai or Saudi Arabia. The fragrances combine classic Arabic ingredients such as musk, amber, oud and rose with Western elements such as fruit, coconut and vanilla. As a result, El-Nabil feels familiar to many European customers, and at the same time different from what you find at the drugstore.

Parent company and sister brands

El-Nabil operates as an independent brand. Little is publicly known about the company behind it, and as far as we know there are no sister brands under a different name. El-Nabil does have several lines of its own, such as the Musc range, the Intense line and a Dubai Collection, alongside room sprays and bakhoor.

Where is El-Nabil popular?

El-Nabil is especially big in France and Belgium, where you see the bottles in many oriental shops and perfumeries. The brand is also popular in the Netherlands, Germany and North Africa; in Morocco, El-Nabil now has an official distributor. The brand is also available online throughout Europe.

Who is El-Nabil for?

  • Anyone who prefers not to wear alcohol. The musk oils contain no alcohol, which makes them suitable for people who choose this for religious reasons or because of sensitive skin.
  • Lovers of soft, long-lasting skin scents. An oil stays close to the skin, so it is subtle but present for a long time.
  • Young women who love sweet scents. Gourmand musks such as Royal Gold and Musc Halima are particularly loved by this group.
  • Anyone who wants to explore without spending much. With a small bottle you can try a new fragrance at a friendly price.

Most El-Nabil fragrances are unisex. Some are bought mainly by women, others mainly by men.

Tips for wearing El-Nabil

  • A little goes a long way. One or two swipes of the roller on your wrists and neck is usually enough.
  • Combine oil and spray. Many El-Nabil fragrances come both as an oil and as an eau de parfum. Apply the oil first and spray on top for more projection.
  • Give the fragrance time. An oil develops slowly on the skin. Judge it after twenty minutes, not straight away.

How a fragrance smells and how long it lasts varies from skin to skin. If in doubt, try a small size first.

Frequently asked questions about El-Nabil

Is El-Nabil an Arabic brand?

No. El-Nabil is a French brand, but its fragrances are clearly inspired by the Arabic perfume tradition, with musk, amber, oud and rose as key building blocks.

Do El-Nabil perfume oils contain alcohol?

No, the musk oils are alcohol-free. The eau de parfums do contain alcohol, like any perfume spray.

What is the difference between an El-Nabil oil and spray?

An oil stays closer to the skin and is more intimate. A spray projects the scent further around you and has a fresher opening. Read more in our article perfume oil vs. eau de parfum.

Which El-Nabil makes the best gift?

Royal Gold is a safe choice: soft, sweet and loved by a wide audience. For someone who prefers fresher scents, Musc Blanc is a good alternative.

How long does an El-Nabil oil last?

That depends on the fragrance and on the skin. Warm musk scents such as Royal Gold and Amber of Yemen usually last longer than fresher fragrances.
